Crafting is my Therapy #11 and Giveaway

Welcome to the eleventh “Crafting is my Therapy” monthly blog link-up.
I hope you’ve had a wonderful month of making and creating.

selection of crafts related to crafting is my therapy blog linky

December will be the last time we host the “Crafting is my Therapy” linky for a little while. I am currently spinning lots of plates at the moment. I started my ‘Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools’ training course in September and it takes up lots of my time. Bearing in mind I haven’t written an essay for over twenty years, starting this course has been a shock to the system. I feel like I’m drowning in coursework! Alongside working part time and life in general, something has to give. Unfortunately, I have to cut back on the time I spend on my blog. Hopefully this is just a pause for ‘Crafting is my Therapy’ and not a final goodbye :)

I’ve enjoyed seeing all your crafty posts and I’ve discovered some amazing new blogs over the past few months of hosting the linky. A big thank you to Elsie Pop, Relentlessly Purple, Zeens and Roger, Growing Family, The Messy Brunette, Hillview Embroidery and Suzy Homemaker for linking up last month. A big thank you to all of you for supporting our linky in 2016, we appreciate each and every one of your retweets and link-backs!

Because we love seeing the projects you are working on, Jennifer and myself would love to keep our little community connected. We’ve decided to launch an Instagram hashtag. Each month it will change to reflect the month we’re in. This month it will be - #craftingismytherapy_december

I know lots of you have beautiful Instagram accounts and I love the supportive nature of the creative community over there. Please feel free to tag as many crafty images with #craftingismytherapy_december throughout the month. At the end of the month, Jennifer and I will choose our favourite images and put together a round-up post over on Instagram. You can find my Instagram here

Crafting is my Therapy #9

Welcome to the ninth “Crafting is my Therapy” blog link-up.

I hope you’ve had a wonderful month or making and creating.

September saw our busiest month yet on the ‘Crafting is my Therapy” linky. Welcome to all our new crafters, including Elsie Pop, Relentlessly Purple, Crafty Linby and Knitting and So On who joined us for the first time in September.

This month I have been practising some new embroidery stitches. I’ve always wanted to try the Lazy Daisy stitch. It’s a classic stitch and a great one for creating texture on a piece. I have also attempted Ribbed Web Stitch. It’s quite an unusual one, a mixture of sewing and weaving. Head over to my post to see how I got on…

Last month we also held a Posca Pen giveaway. There were 15 posts (not including the hosts) added to our link-up in September. Using the random number generator, I can tell you that the winner is…Relentlessly Purple! A pack of Posca Pens will be heading her way shortly...

Have you created anything crafty this month? Sewing, knitting, crochet, painting or pottery…please join in and share your blog posts.

The focus of this linky is crafting for pleasure, basically taking some ‘me-time’ to unwind in our busy lives. It doesn’t have to be a finished project, we love seeing work in progress, planning posts or tutorials too.

Crafting is my Therapy #8 + Posca Pen Giveaway

Welcome to the eighth “Crafting is my Therapy” blog link-up. A big thank you to everyone who linked up in August - I know it can be a busy month with holidays, days out and making the most of the sunshine...

I have to hold my hands up and say I haven’t sewn a single stitch in August. I had all sorts of plans and ideas, but the school holidays defeated me on the sewing front. Not that I’m complaining, we’ve had a great time. Lots of trips to the beach, playing in the park, picking fruit and veg at the allotment, sunny (yes, sunny) camping trips…I just haven’t had a moment to sit down and stitch!

Having said that, we’ve still had a crafty Summer with lots of colouring, painting and drawing. One thing we have loved is crafting with our Posca Pens. They draw on pretty much any surface you can think of…glass, stone, wood and plastic to name just a few. We put our Posca Pens through their paces and you can see my review post here.

Posca have also kindly offered us a set of their pens to giveaway this month. Simply link up with a craft related blog post and you could be in with a chance of winning...

Have you created anything crafty this month? If you sew, knit, crochet, paint, work with ceramics…please join in and share your blog posts.

The focus of this linky is crafting for pleasure, basically taking some ‘me-time’ to unwind in our busy lives. It doesn’t have to be a finished project, we love seeing work in progress, planning posts or tutorials too.

Crafting is my Therapy #6 + Sugru giveaway

Welcome to the Sixth “Crafting is my Therapy” blog link-up.
I hope you’ve had a wonderful month or making and creating.

- June has been a hectic month for me. I have so many things I want to make and not enough time. I’m really grateful I started the Crafting is my Therapy project because it does spur me on to sit down and create. Even if it is just for half an hour. It doesn't have to be a perfectly finished piece of craft, just tapping into your creativity for a few minutes can help with your wellbeing. I did manage to sew this little “Crafting is my Therapy” hoop. It’s embellished with vintage buttons that belonged to my late-grandmother. I am hoping to make a start on a piece of embroidery featuring a butterfly motif in July.

In June we had a lovely selection of crafts added to our link-up.
It was nice to see new craft bloggers getting involved with our crafting community.
We loved seeing everything you’ve created.

This month we are holding another giveaway. The lovely people at Sugru have donated a fab prize. One lucky winner will win:
Sugru Starter Kit
Sugru Magnet Kit
Sugru 8 Pack in a range of bright colours

Never heard of Sugru?

“Sugru is the world’s first mouldable glue that sticks to almost anything and turns into a strong flexible rubber overnight. Invented for people looking to repair and improve stuff, it’s used by people in over 160 countries - from homeowners planning DIY projects through to people making small improvements to gadgets, appliances and even toys.”

Sugru is amazing stuff. Jennifer, my co-host, has used it many times and is a big fan. You can see her crafty Sugru makes here. Sugru actively welcome customers to share ideas with others. You can see tons of ideas on their website...I particularly love their “Craft & Making” section

You can find the Sugru giveaway rules at the bottom of this post...good luck!

Last month we also held a colouring book giveaway. There were 10 posts (not including the hosts) added to our link-up in June. Using the random number generator, I can tell you that the winner is…A Saucy Stitch! Two colouring books will be heading your way shortly.

For a chance to win, simply link-up below with your crafty blog posts.
Full entry rules can be found further down in this post.

This month I have been:
- Working on my “it’s Cool to be Kind” embroidery hoop. I was inspired by selfless acts carried out by people who are either paid or unpaid carers. Kindness is something I value in my own life and it can often be overlooked. Head over to my blog post to read more. I'd love to know your thoughts on this subject, either as a carer or as someone who is cared-for. I'd also like to hear about experiences where an act of kindness has made a difference to your life.

Last month was our busiest link-up so far. We loved seeing everything you’ve created. My favourite links from last month’s Crafting is my Therapy are:
– I was genuinely moved by Amy Loves to Sew’s post about the handmade artwork she created for her baby daughter. So much thought & effort went into the piece. This is the real beauty behind making something yourself…you can put lots of love into it.
– As a vintage fabric fan, I adored Zeens and Roger’s patchwork knitting bag, head to her blog to find out more…
– The Messy Brunette worked her crafty magic on her haul of prizes won from a blog giveaway. I make no secret of the fact I love her hand painted jars and take every opportunity to tell her so. Hopefully she will put together a tutorial on her blog soon
– And finally, Simply Blossoms blogged about an ingenious way to colour match yarn before you start a knitting or crochet project. Take a look at her post to see the idea in all its colourful glory.

For a chance to win, simply link-up below with your crafty blog posts.

This month I have been:

- Finding it hard to make time to complete a full piece of embroidery. This month I just haven’t had time to put together a finished piece. Having said that, I have attempted to learn some new stitches. I’m really pleased with the results and enjoyed taking some time out to sew. You can see my embroidery stitches blog post here.

- Over the past few weeks I’ve spent lots of time looking at various embroidery stitches and tutorials over on Pinterest. I made a start on attempting to learn some new stitches over the Easter weekend.

My favourite links from last month’s Crafting Is My Therapy:

– I was really happy to see “Tilly’s Vintage Workshop” linking up with us last month. Tilly Rose wrote this uplifting post about collaboration, the crafting community and the work she has created recently. I’m hoping to see more posts from her over the coming months…

Here are some other crafty corners of the web you may like to check out:

– I saw the Five jawdropping crafts from around the UK article over on Facebook a few days ago. Put together by BBC Arts it shows some eye catching pieces of craft. I particularly like the ‘counter-knit” £10 note…very clever.

– I love the idea of crafting bringing people together. I saw this “Hashtag roundup: Making for others” post on the Mollie Makes website and thought I would share it with you. It details various charity projects and the hashtags associated with them. For example #make2share involves giving an unexpected handmade gift to someone who could do with a boost. There are lots more initivates listed, so I would recommend taking a look at the article.

Have you created anything crafty this month? If you sew, knit, crochet, paint, work with ceramics…please join in and share your work.

Crafting is my Therapy #2

a selection of crafts including crochet, applique, hama beads and scissors promoting the crafting is my therapy blog linky

Welcome to the second Crafting is my Therapy linky.

I hope you’ve had a wonderful month or making and creating.

This month I have been:

- Completing my vintage fabric rabbit applique hoop. I love sewing blanket stitch and include it wherever I can in my sewing projects

- Spending lots of time looking at various embroidery stitches and tutorials over on Pinterest. I want to aim to master a few more stitches this year. I particularly love this 'Sheaf Filling Stitch'. They look like lots of little bow ties.

- After chatting on Facebook with other crafters, I may be taking part in a collaborative sewing project. It’s a bit like a embroidery ‘round robin’. Each person completes a section of the sewing project and then posts it onto the next participant. It should be fun…watch this space

My favourite links from last month’s Crafting Is My Therapy were:

Little Socks and a Bear named Bob from Amy Loves to Sew

One Skein Cowl – a free pattern From The Messy Brunette

Chevron Crochet Blanket Pattern from Hello Midlife Crisis

Some other crafty corners of the internet you may like to check out:

My Make Do And Mend Life is written by Jen Gale. She is an enthusiastic advocate for reusing and mending things we already have, rather than buying new. She hosts Make Do and Mend hour on Twitter every Thursday 8-9pm GMT. This is a place for people show the projects they have been working on. Many of them involve sewing and mending. It’s a great way to pick up tips and share ideas with a thrifty community.

– In a similar vein is The Big Mend. The brainchild of Scrapiana, The Big Mend aims “to get the nation mending, darning and patching again”. I think the project is fantastic and encourages people to get in touch with making things by hand again.

– To raise awareness of Alzheimer's Awareness Month the Alzheimer Society are organising a ‘Knit Bombing’ event. They are asking people to knit, crochet or sew a Forget-Me-Not flower. There are many events taking place across the country, take a look at their website to find out more…
