Ethical Expo wine tasting seminar

We attended the Ethical Expo on Saturday 10th May. It was a lovely, warm day and the event was well attended.There were lots of interesting stalls from companies such as Co-op, Ecotricity, Bristol Car Sharing Club, Green Shoes and Bishopston Trading to name just a few.

Ethical Expo 2008

The first Ethical Expo will be held on the 9th and 10th May 2008, incorporating International Fairtrade Day.

"Ethical Expo will help consumers make the right choices by bringing together producers, distributors, resellers and the public. Ethical Expo will cover three areas; Eating, Wearing and Living, with seminars, demonstrations, shows and stands."

Vintage Find: turquoise blue drape top

When sourcing vintage fabric, I often acquire vintage clothes from the same places.
This is a unique vintage top
Made from striking turquoise fabric which drapes in gorgeous folds which gives it real character
It has a Grecian feel to it
This top reminds me of the alternative-style worn by individuals like Róisín Murphy of Moloko and Alison Goldfrapp

UNIQUE 70s VINTAGE TURQUOISE BLUE GRECIAN DRAPE TOP 12

Vintage love: early twentieth century cast iron black Singer sewing machine

My mum kindly gave me this sewing machine a few years ago. I think it is beautiful, I love old Singer machines. It's a treadle-style sewing machine from 1917. In cast iron black enamel with gold filigree detail and engraving. My Mum had it adapted to work on a motor. She has always said what a strong machine it is...she even fixed a 1970s canvas tent with it once upon a time.
I posted pictures of this machine on Flickr and I was told by a fellow Flickr member that by looking at the serial number she could tell me the Singer was issued in 1917 and made in Clydebank, Scotland.

It's amazing people are able to trace the origins of a particular machine from the serial number.
